The weather was certainly
outstanding, the crowds
enthusiastic, and the ramp
was full of really neat
airplanes. What more could
you want as our Chapter
kicked off the summer Fly-ins
with a fantastic turnout of
pilots, planes, and enthusiasts.
A final tally is not in yet, but
Frank Price, Chapter Treasurer,
reports that we did very well.
Lines for pancakes
remained long for a
considerable period during the morning.
The hit of the show was the Super
Chipmunk aerobatic trainer
which was displayed and
demonstrated by the fine
individuals at Missionary
Maintenance of Coshocton.
The aircraft flew several times
throughout the day and lucky
individuals purchased rides for
a very modest fee.
Once again the fine fellows from the Ohio Valley
Rvators showcased their skills at formation
flying. Gary Sleutz from Beach City, and
chapter member, John Furey along with
“Flaps” and “Dogg” provided lots of
excitement and received considerable
praise from the appreciative crowd.
John Haines got into the action by flying the
small Nieuport 17, a World War I replica.
Many chapter members showed up to
help out and without their help it would not
be possible to hold this type of event.
Youth Interested in Aviation Fly
Balsa Gliders
Several of the attending students at our
Fly-in participated in an aviation
awareness activity. Students from the ages
of 8-13 were invited to a balsa glider flying
contest.
The winner is to receive a ride in
one of our chapter members airplanes.
Before the flight Vice-President Glenn
Davis gave a short discussion on what
makes an aircraft fly. The students listened
intently and had great fun flying the
gliders. Young Sabreena McGlothlin won
the contest with a massive effort.
Thanks to Truck World Insurance and Terry Henry for
purchasing the gliders. Randy Maley
graciously allowed the use of his aircraft.
Don’t Forget the Father’s Day Fly-in at Beach City
Beach City’s annual event will take
place on Father’s Day, June 19. If the past
is any indicator, things should be very
interesting.
Good Things are Happening
Randy Maley has arranged for a
chapter project to be donated to the
Chapter. Through the Donate-a-Plane
program, we are going to be the fortunate
recipients of a Glastar Super 2+ kit. All that
is required is to make the trip to South
Carolina to pick it up. Plans are underway
to make that journey sometime in June. A
place to assemble the kit is being sought.
Randy Maley has offered his single stall
garage. It is planned to begin work on the
project this summer. After the project is
complete, it will become part of the Flying
Club that is in the planning stages.
Pilot Shack the Place to Be
Saturday mornings seem to be the
time to catch many of the members of
Chapter 1077 at the airport. Local pilots
have been meeting on an informal basis
in the Pilot Shack located at the end of the
T-hangars on the East High Ave side of the
Airport at around 10:00 AM. Lots of late
breaking news items seem to come out of
these ad-hoc meetings. Come join us if
you have the time.
